Upton Country Park Interpretation

Upton Country Park Interpretation

Sector – Public Realm & Heritage Signage

isGroup were approached by Idverde, the leading provider of grounds maintenance services and landscape creation projects, to work on a project in Northampton – Upton Country Park.

isGroup were tasked with the manufacture and installation of interpretation signage throughout the 300 plus acres of mainly open fields, which are used for grazing land for sheep and recreational purposes.

Project Delivery

The signage scheme included six entrance features which consisted of 10mm aluminium letters spelling ‘UPTON COUNTRY PARK’, these were then mounted onto aluminium rails to make installation in the brick work walls easier. The rails allowed for studs to be drilled and fixed into the wall instead of each individual letter needing multiple studs.

To accompany the six sets of letter features, six interpretation aluminium panels signs were mounted on the brick wall, the panels were produced to be anti – graffiti and highly durable due to the panel being external and exposed to the weather elements.

The panels featured information about local wildlife, the surrounding areas and was used as an aim to help wayfinding with maps of walks in the park. Another 12 of the interpretation panels were produced and installed around the park’s acres. Some of the panels were mounted on to posts, this included three small post mounted panels and one large panel.

>Fingerposts were also a part of the signage project isGroup supplied their own WAY2GO range of fingerposts due to ease of updating in the future. The system comprised of 316 grade brushed stainless steel posts and internally locking collars, to ensure the fingers maintain position.

To finish the scheme three wall mounted lecterns were installed at a viewing point within the Park. The lectern panels were set at an angle to ease viewing for visitors and walkers. To fix the panels to the wall isGroup created a supporting steel frame with metal posts that were built into the wall to give extra security to the signage. The lecterns were produced to be durable, with anti-graffiti features to match the other panels throughout the park.

Overcoming Obstacles

isGroup were delighted to be able to successfully deliver this project, which was completed in 2020. Due to the Covid outbreak isGroup were limited by material demand, employees across partners and suppliers furloughed, along with the restrictions in place around travel hampering site visits for surveys and sign off, along with putting in place new processes for installation meant what should be a relatively simple job for installation became a challenge.
