Carlisle City Wayfinding

Carlisle City Wayfinding

In 2017, isGroup was awarded a prestigious contract to manufacture and install eleven double-sided heritage and wayfinding monolith signs and fifteen directional fingerposts within Carlisle city centre and its main access roads.

Project Delivery

Like many Local Authorities, Carlisle City Council recognised the distinct advantage of isGroup’s WAY2GO system. This wayfinding system allowed them the flexibility to purchase a standard signage system but customise it to their own requirements and provide them with their own unique, consistently branded version. isGroup followers will recall that another version of the WAY2GO system won isGroup the Best Wayfinding Sign of the Year Award the preceding year.

Carlisle’s WAY2GO specification celebrated its Cumbrian connection and included lower panels customised with Cumbrian Broughton Moor stone, locally sourced from the nearby quarry and these were complemented by reverse-digitally printed glass showing Carlisle’s heritage information and wayfinding maps. The WAY2GO Fingerpost signs included the Council’s crest logo, positioned on top of the posts, and together the new wayfinding system has significantly improved the city’s public realm navigation.

Quality Assured

isGroup’s CAD designers completed technical drawings of the manufacturing specification for the client’s approval, which were passed by the in-house Welding Co-ordinator, to ensure compliance with BS EN1090-2 CE marking.

For the sign installations, isGroup utilised its dedicated team of installers who hold NRWSA Street Works licenses to secure a safe working environment at all times in the busy city centre and along the main roads into Carlisle.
