Colliers Park, Wrexham

isGroup was approached to provide expert knowledge and consult with architects Lawray, Read Construction and the FAW on the new Colliers Park development.

In 2018, the Football Association of Wales (FAW) announced proposals for a major renovation of Glyndwr University’s Colliers Park site. This included an investment of over £4 million following their acquisition of the site, to transform it into an elite training facility.

Project Delivery

isGroup were tasked with translating the FAW brand guidelines into a finished signage scheme that suited refurbished the facility. but also worked with the modern new build extension which transformed it into the new elite training facility.

isGroup worked extensively with the FAW on the signage scheme design. After a lengthy sampling process to colour match the paint to the branding guidelines and to choose the most appropriate vinyl materials the scheme was approved.

Following an initial survey to determine access equipment and installation method, isGroup produced external signage that included two WAY2GO wayfinding monoliths and two LED halo illuminated FAW emblem shields. The shield included painted stainless steel. with digital printed vinyl graphics applied to the face and stood off to maximise the halo illuminated effect.

Signage Scheme

External acrylic branding, panels with plotted vinyl text and printed logos were also produced along with a brushed aluminium composite dragon with vinyl detail. Additionally. post and wall mounted wayfinding signage was manufactured and installed as part of the external signage.

The internal signage consisted of two (Welsh then English) sets of FAW core values manufactured out of brushed composite letters. accompanied with an acrylic FAW emblem shield. with UV printed graphics. General internal signage such as lockable poster cases. information boards. wall directories and door signage formed part of the scheme.

The results

Large graphics were also a part of the internal signage scheme. optically clear film was used to create a feature window with a monochrome Welsh dragon applied to the glazing – this was to ensure privacy when the Welsh national football team use the facility. UV printed graphics of Welsh football fans were installed in the players dressing room to go with a feature wall football pitch leading into the dressing room.

#The completed signage scheme complements the newly built building and brings life back into the former Wrexham Football Club training ground. The centre further benefits Welsh football nationally and locally by delivering accessible and high-class training facilities for talented young players and the wider football workforce in North Wales.
