Coleg Cambria

Coleg Cambria

When designing it’s brand new £14m sixth form college ‘Deeside Sixth’ Coleg Cambria wanted consistent branding and signage that was striking and fit well with its modern approach while at the same time communicating clearly with staff, students and visitors.

Wynne Construction appointed isGroup to liaise closely with Ainsley Gommon Architects and realise its vision for the facility.

“We had big ideas which worked with both the colours and scale of the building” said Architectural Technologist at Ainsley Gommon Architects.

Project Delivery

Six Campus

isGroup created wall graphics using the core ‘6’ branding and logo for the main atrium that dominates the building, plus the reception and window vinyls.

A sense of place was also important in the feel of the building, so isGroup created Google maps-style graphics up to 12m in length, which accurately portray the local area, providing both a great look and an information point.

isGroup also created floor level numerals to identify each level of the building, modern WC graphics and wayfinding signage directing students to the Science Zone and Library.

The sixth form area was completed with the installation of signage lettering to identify the dedicated student cafi, Caffi’r Cei and lecture theatres.

Flying High

The Deeside Sixth site also incorporates a Higher Education building in association with Airbus UK and Swansea University.

It will provide a base for engineering students and apprentices to work towards higher skill qualifications as well as space for students working on degree-level courses.

To support the association with Airbus, isGroup created Airbus-themed wall graphics for the building’s interior, maintaining awareness of the manufacturer’s key ongoing contribution to the facility.

isGroup designed, manufactured and installed external signage to support both Swansea University and Coleg Cambria to ensure each had due prominence and complemented each other and the college environment.

Finally isGroup installed wayfinding signs across all pedestrianised areas of the site to deliver clear directional assistance for students, staff and visitors.

Other Coleg Cambria sites

isGroup completed a further 2 signage projects for Coleg Cambria as part of their £13.5m investment project to develop their facilities. Coleg Cambria’s mission is to “Innovate, Inspire & Succeed” and this was reflected in the signage.

On this occasion isGroup worked directly with the College’s Estates Department to provide modern signage to convey an inspirational learning environment.

Wrexham:

The first site to be completed was the Engineering Technology Centre at Bersham Road, Wrexham. The scheme included external wall mounted stainless steel brushed lettering complete with corporate logo and complementary post mounted signs with digitally printed directional signage.

To complete the scheme, window manifestations with reverse digitally printed logo and graphics were installed and the scheme was completed with laser cut room identification door lettering and symbols throughout the building and vinyl wall labelling.

Northop:

The second project was at the new Business School in Northop which followed similar branding.

The building’s fascia wall featured brushed effect lettering and logo which was replicated internally.

The wayfinding element of the scheme again included external post and wall mounted signs including one main entrance sign at the boundary of the campus.

The isGroup installation team installed the external and internal signage liaising with the College to reduce disruption. All of our installers have CSCS cards and are working at height trained.

isGroup is also a part of the redevelopment of the Yale Campus for Coleg Cambria due for completion 2021.
