Meeting the DfE Mandate: Key Takeaways from Education Estates 2025

12 December 2025 3 min read

We recently wrapped up on an invaluable two days at Education Estates 2025 in Manchester Central, an event focused on the future design, maintenance, and management of the learning environment. For ISGroup, our presence there wasn’t just to exhibit, we were there to engage with the core issues facing the sector. Every school estate should be safe, compliant, and confidently navigable, and we were very happy to demonstrate how our DfE-aligned signage solutions are already driving this vision forward.

Up To Standard

The overriding message from the conference was the non-negotiable need for compliance. Modern school estates must adhere to strict Department for Education (DfE) standards, not just for funding but for safety. This is where ISGroup excels. Our approach ensures every solution, from external monoliths to internal door signs, is mapped to DfE Output Specification Part B requirements for Wayfinding, Safety, and Durability. We’re eliminating guesswork for contractors and school trusts and delivering on a complete compliance package that stands up to audit standards and provides that all-essential, long-term assurance.

One of the most critical discussions we heard was centred on creating truly inclusive learning spaces. Signage is a silent but very powerful tool for inclusion and we showed delegates how our solutions go beyond simple accessibility. By adhering to standards like BS 8300 and ISO 7010, we implement SEND-aware layouts and high-contrast designs that benefit everyone – especially pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

When a child can navigate their school with independence and confidence, it directly supports their learning and wellbeing. We call this ‘Creating Clarity and Confidence in Every School Environment.’

The Project Delivery Advantage

Many delegates at the event spoke of the challenges in managing multiple sub-contractors and all the communication issues that come with that. The ISGroup solution is End-to-End Delivery. We manage the entire process in-house from initial design and manufacture, to installation and the handover of O&M packs.

Our proven track record on DfE Frameworks and the School Rebuilding Programme speaks for itself: projects are delivered on time, on budget, and fully compliant. This all-in-one approach allows contractors and estate managers to focus on the main build, knowing their signage is completely taken care of and not having to look after multiple lines of communication.

Our time at Education Estates 2025 confirmed that the future of school estates is bright, but there are challenges to overcome. ISGroup is here to be your partner in navigating all the elements of compliance and help to deliver a welcoming and safe environment. If you’re planning a new build, refurbishment, or you are simply reviewing your existing estate’s compliance and inclusivity, talk to the specialists – we’ll make your next project compliant, clear, and stress-free.
