Chapter One for isGroup’s Storyhouse Project

The first chapter of isGroup’s project with £37m new theatre development Storyhouse began this month with the installation of the ‘Storyhouse letters’.

Storyhouse, which features an adjoining library, is the UK’s largest regional arts project under construction and is set to open its doors in May this year.

Following a full site survey, the structural design of steelwork and calculations completed in preparation for high-level sign installations, the letters, which measure just under a metre in height and also feature white LED illumination, were installed to the Grade 2 listed building.

The built up stainless steel individual letters were the first of the signage package to go up on the tower section of the Chester city centre building. For ease of access for the client, isGroup arranged for the LED drivers to be mounted inside the building in a discreet enclosure box, to ensure easy access for the client.

Using its significant expertise and network of suppliers, isGroup arranged access equipment to complete the high-level installation using a 35-tonne crane and a 23-metre access platform. This required the closure of Hunter Street and diversion of all traffic including buses.

The next stage of the project will include the installation of an illuminated lightbox along the main canopy of the building, displaying traditional cinematic information for upcoming events at Storyhouse and in the library, which will strengthen branding along the building.

A series of halo-illuminated Storyhouse letters will also be installed along St Martin’s Way at high level to maximise brand visibility to visitors, with all signage is set to be up in time for the grand opening in May.
