Client: Durham County Council/Barnard
Vision
Brief: As part of the continual improvement
programme IS Group were invited to tender for Phase 1 of the way
finding project throughout the historic town.
Solution: Working closely with London based
Environmental design and Communication Consultants Placemarque, IS
Group were delighted to be appointed to manufacture and install the
bespoke 4-sided wayfinding totem and numerous cast bronze
waymarkers.
The bespoke 4-sided totem comprised of locally sourced engraved
sandstone around the foot of the sign providing a natural finish
sympathetic to its surrounding landscape. All wayfinding
information was applied to the rear of heat soaked toughened glass
secured with anti-tamper fixings. The totem also incorporated two
bespoke display cases with magnetic lens. These display cases are
used to advertise forthcoming events to the general public which
can be frequently changed by the Council.
Result: The new signage received an exceptional
response from members of the Council, general public and designers
Placemarque providing users a unique point for information and
wayfinding assistance.
Sue Manley - PLACEMARQUE
"We worked with IS Group to develop a bespoke sign structure for
the historic market town of Barnard Castle, County Durham. The sign
involved a steel frame, stone base using local stone, glass map
cases with reverse applied vinyl map graphics and lockable notice
display cases. IS Group provided a good collaborative service
working with us to develop the sign details, looking at options to
develop a wider strategy of signs and maps in the town, and then
making and installing the sign to budget. The sign structure is now
installed, has been well received and the next phase is being
planned."
